Social media influencer Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, has raised concerns over an alleged anonymous warning he says he received regarding his planned return to Nigeria.
In a video shared online, he claimed an unknown caller advised him not to publicly announce his return and to avoid travelling with his phones, allegedly warning that he could be arrested immediately upon arrival at the airport.
According to him, the warning was linked to ongoing political tensions and suggestions that he is being sponsored by opposition figures to criticise the government. He referenced a statement allegedly made by Lere Olayinka, spokesperson to the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, which implied that some individuals were funding his public criticisms.
VeryDarkMan dismissed the allegation, insisting that his commentary is based on personal observations and conviction rather than external sponsorship. He also said he would not be intimidated into silence, adding that he would “rather be arrested for speaking up” than stop speaking out.
He further criticised the federal government over issues of corruption, insecurity, and rising economic hardship, questioning how funds from subsidy removal and loans have been utilized. He also referenced reported cases of kidnappings and attacks across parts of the country, describing the security situation as worsening.
The influencer concluded by maintaining that he intends to continue voicing his opinions despite the alleged threats, while warning about what he described as the country’s declining governance and economic conditions.
