A violent incident has occurred in Evbonogbon Village, also known as Ohosu village, in Edo State, Nigeria, where Fulani herdsmen allegedly killed a woman returning from her farm. The incident has sparked widespread outrage, with villagers blocking the road since 10 am in protest.
This unfortunate event highlights the ongoing conflicts between farmers and herders in Nigeria, which have resulted in significant loss of life and property in recent years.
Similar incidents have been reported in other parts of the country, including Benue State, where over 42 people were killed in attacks attributed to Fulani herdsmen in May 2025.
In Ondo State, eight farmers were reportedly killed, prompting residents to stage protests and demand action from the state government in March 2025. Plateau State has also witnessed renewed violence, with at least 18 people killed in farmer-herder clashes in June 2025.
“We call on the security agencies and Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo to take immediate action to address this situation and ensure the safety of the villagers”, Mr. Osunde Samuel told Standarddailypress.com.
The Nigerian government has been working to address these issues, including plans to establish grazing reserves and promote cattle ranching to reduce conflicts. However, more needs to be done to prevent such incidents and bring perpetrators to justice.
“We urge the authorities to investigate this incident and bring the perpetrators to justice, provide adequate security to the villagers and prevent further attacks, as well as work towards finding a lasting solution to the farmer-herder conflicts in the state.
“The people of Evbonogbon Village deserve peace and justice. We hope that the authorities will take swift action to address this situation and prevent further violence”, Mr. Osunde further stated.
