Why Electricity Supply Dropped Nationwide – Minister Of Power, Adelabu

THE reason behind the nationwide decrease in electricity supply has been revealed by the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu. Adelabu attributed the drop in power supply to gas constraints faced by thermal generating companies. In a statement released on Friday by Bolaji Tunji, special adviser for strategic communication and media relations to the Minister of Power, it was mentioned that the federal government is taking steps to settle outstanding payments to power generation companies in order to address the declining electricity supply.

According to Adelabu, the reduced gas supply to generation companies has resulted in a lower level of energy being supplied to load centres, impacting the electricity supply to distribution companies. The Minister emphasized that resolving this issue will enable distribution companies to provide more electricity to Nigerians. He acknowledged the unsustainable situation and expressed expectations for an immediate turnaround.

In response to the drop in bulk power supply due to gas constraints, the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) had previously attributed the decline. As a result, Electricity Distribution Companies across the country issued apologies to consumers for the decrease in power supply.
