SENATOR Orji Kalu, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Privatisation, has revealed that he stopped using his private jet due to the soaring cost of aviation fuel.
The former governor of Abia State explained that the rising fuel prices have also impacted his wage bill for workers across Nigeria and other West African countries.
In an interview shared on his verified Facebook page on Friday, Kalu disclosed the decision, which he said was made in early August.
The senator, who represents Abia North Senatorial District in the 10th National Assembly, said the shift to flying commercial planes will remain in place for the foreseeable future.
“I have stopped using my private jet since August 2, 2024, and I want to maintain that until we are able to sort out the differentials of the workers’ salaries in Nigeria and in West Africa,” Kalu stated. “I put into consideration the high cost of fuel and other issues in arriving at my decision.”
He further noted, “I have grounded the private jet to focus on other business ventures in the oil sector, and I plan to keep it that way.”
The senator added, “There are commercial planes that are on schedule, and I will use them to the glory of God.”
