Wike-Aligned PDP BoT Moves to Restructure Party, Plans Fresh Congresses and Convention

The factional Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) aligned with the camp of the Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, has announced a sweeping internal restructuring plan aimed at stabilising troubled state chapters and preparing the party for new congresses and a national convention.

Speaking at the opening of the faction’s meeting held at the Life Camp residence of Nyesom Wike in Abuja, the BoT Chairman, Senator Mao Ohuabunwa, said the group was determined to rebuild the party from within and restore public trust in its internal democratic processes.

According to Ohuabunwa, significant progress has already been made in reorganising chapters affected by internal crises, with credible caretaker committees put in place to prepare the ground for transparent state congresses and a proper convention process.

He insisted that the reforms were not just about party politics but about rebuilding confidence, strengthening PDP’s internal structures and ensuring fairness and inclusiveness in Nigeria’s democratic space.

The faction also threw its weight behind the National Working Committee led by Abdulrahman Mohammed, promising full cooperation and support to ensure that all actions remain within the law and party guidelines.

Ohuabunwa stressed that the Board of Trustees must return to its constitutional role as the stabilising force and moral authority of the PDP, describing the BoT as the conscience and moral compass of the party.

He urged members to put aside personal interests and focus on unity, warning that the party could only survive if leaders acted in good faith and upheld due process, legality and respect for the regulations of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The meeting was attended by prominent party figures including Senator Samuel Anyanwu, former Abia State governor Okezie Ikpeazu, former Kogi deputy governor Dr Philip Salary and other PDP chieftains.

The faction maintained that the restructuring exercise is aimed at ensuring the PDP emerges stronger, more united and better prepared for future leadership responsibilities.
