FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has reaffirmed that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) remains a formidable political force despite its current internal challenges. He made the remarks during the party’s 105th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held in Abuja.
Wike warned members against treating the PDP as a “charity organisation,” stressing that the party still has a strong foundation that can be rebuilt if leaders return to the grassroots — the ward and polling unit levels — to revive its structure.
He spoke extensively about the party’s internal disputes, ongoing legal battles, and the urgent need to focus on survival and stability nationwide. Wike also expressed keen interest in the PDP’s activities in Oyo State, describing it as strategic to the party’s future.
While acknowledging peace efforts by the Board of Trustees and the National Working Committee, he urged members to remain vigilant against attempts to destabilise the party. He expressed confidence that such efforts would ultimately fail.
The minister encouraged the party to rely on its internal experience and capacity, highlighting the competence of its legal and organising officers. He concluded by emphasising the importance of the overdue congresses and preparations for a credible national convention as critical steps in strengthening the PDP’s position as Nigeria’s leading opposition platform.
