The Yobe State Government, led by Governor Mai Mala Buni, has ordered the immediate closure of all boarding secondary schools across the state as a precaution to protect students. The decision was made on Saturday after a high-level security meeting between the governor and security chiefs, where recent incidents affecting schools in parts of the country were reviewed.
In a statement signed by Mohammed Mamman, Director General of Press and Media Affairs to the governor, the government said the move was necessary until the security environment improves. A formal notice issued by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Dr. Bukar Aji Bukar, instructed all boarding schools to shut down without delay.
Mamman added that Governor Buni urged residents to continue praying for leaders, security personnel, and for peace to be restored across the country. He emphasised that the safety of students remains a top priority.
