The Zamfara chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has denied receiving a letter from Governor Dauda Lawal indicating his intention to defect to the party.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that rumors had been circulating across the state suggesting that Lawal might leave the PDP to join the APC.
In a statement issued on Saturday in Gusau, the state APC Publicity Secretary, Malam Yusuf Idris, described the speculations as fabricated and unfounded.
“The party came across a report, falsely attributed to one Tambarin Gusau, claiming that Governor Dauda Lawal sent a letter to join the APC. This report is malicious, unfortunate, and misleading, showing the unprofessional lengths some people will go to cause chaos in a stable and peaceful party like the APC,” Idris said.
He emphasized that the APC has not received any such letter, nor is the party aware of any recent move by Governor Lawal to defect. Idris urged all party members and the public in Zamfara to disregard the report.
