NIGERIA’s Super Eagles need to beat Guinea-Bissau in their final 2023 Africa Cup of Nations Group A clash at the Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium on Monday to secure a berth at round of 16.
The match will be played at 7pm local time.
The Nigerian team are looking to also secure the top spot in the group after picking up their first win when they edged hosts Cote d’Ivoire 1-0 on January 18 courtesy of William Troost-Ekong’s 55th-minute penalty.
Super Eagles maintained their unbeaten start to the tournament and are level with Equatorial Guinea on four points, but behind them on goal difference, having played out to a 1-1 draw with the National Thunder in the opening match on January 14.
Guinea-Bissau have been eliminated from the continental tournament after suffering a 4-2 defeat to Equatorial Guinea on January 18, which left them bottom of the group without a single point.
This is also coupled with a 2-0 loss to Cote d’Ivoire Elephants on January 13.
Guinea-Bissau also conceded the most goals in the group stages of the championship.
Meanwhile, The host nation, Cote d’Ivoire, which lost 1-0 in their second Group A game and are now under pressure to get a result when they conclude the opening phase of the tournament against Equatorial Guinea on Monday.
The Ivorians are third in the group standings with three points, one behind both Equatorial Guinea and Nigeria, and will be looking for a win to make sure of their progress to the last 16.
