The Executive Chairman of Hawul Local Government in Borno State, Hon. Hussaini Malgwi, has thrown his weight behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima, to continue their joint ticket in the 2027 general elections.
The endorsement came amid controversy at a meeting in Gombe last Sunday, when the APC’s North East National Vice Chairman, Comrade Mustapha Salihu, chose to endorse President Tinubu without acknowledging Shettima — a move that triggered chaos and disrupted the gathering as aggrieved members hurled chairs and other objects in protest.
Speaking to journalists in Maiduguri on Monday, Malgwi described the growing rumors that Vice President Shettima might be replaced in 2027 as unfounded and a danger to the unity of the party and the region. He stressed that a change in the ticket would be strongly resisted by party members and stakeholders alike.
He called on APC supporters in the North East to avoid actions that could undermine the party’s unity, adding that the way forward is to come together in support of President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima’s continued leadership.
“We from the North East have suffered much devastation due to Boko Haram attacks for over a decade, but healing and rebuilding are underway under President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, with strong support from his Vice President, Kashim Shettima; Governor Babagana Zulum; and other governors in the region — from Yobe, Adamawa, Gombe, Taraba, and Bauchi — regardless of political affiliation,” Malgwi said.
He also used the opportunity to appreciate all APC members and delegates from Hawul who turned up in large numbers at the Gombe meeting and maintained their discipline, patience, and loyalty to the party, even amid the chaos.
