“Let People Speculate”—Wike Keeps Peace Deal With Fubara Under Wraps

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has made it clear he won’t be spilling the details of the recent peace agreement between him and suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara.

Speaking candidly during a media chat at his Abuja residence on Thursday, Wike brushed off questions about the specifics of the deal. Instead, he invited Nigerians to make their own assumptions.

“I will allow you to speculate—it’s not my business,” he said plainly. “All I know is that peace has come. If you’re not satisfied with that, there’s nothing we can do. What’s important is that peace has returned. Whatever anybody says is not my concern.”

This comes after President Bola Tinubu stepped in to mediate a growing political rift that had rocked Rivers State for months. In June, Tinubu hosted a high-level peace meeting involving Wike, Fubara, and some suspended lawmakers from the Rivers State House of Assembly.

The crisis, which reached a boiling point earlier this year, led to the suspension of Governor Fubara, his deputy Ngozi Odu, and members of the Assembly in March 2025. The political tension had raised serious concerns in the oil-rich state, with many fearing it could spiral into something more dangerous.

While details of the peace agreement remain behind closed doors, Wike’s comments signal that—at least for now—cooler heads have prevailed.
