President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially clinched the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential ticket for the 2027 general elections in a sweeping victory that showed his strong grip on the party nationwide.
In a historic direct primary held across all 36 states and the FCT, Tinubu pulled a massive 10.9 million votes, completely outpacing his challenger, Stanley Osifo, who managed just 16,503 votes. The exercise covered over 8,800 wards nationwide.
Tinubu dominated across the country, recording huge numbers in states like Lagos, Adamawa, Kaduna, Kano, and Imo, reinforcing what APC leaders described as overwhelming grassroots support.
Speaking after his victory, the President thanked party members and supporters, describing the moment as a renewed mandate to continue his reforms. He also extended an olive branch to his opponent, saying he held no grudges and welcomed healthy democratic competition.
“We will not allow politicians with no clear vision to take Nigeria backward,” Tinubu said, while pledging to deepen reforms in power, economy, infrastructure, and security.
His speech also doubled as a defence of his administration’s record, where he highlighted progress in electricity metering, debt settlement in the power sector, education funding, and economic restructuring.
Meanwhile, opposition voices and rival parties are already positioning themselves ahead of 2027, with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and others preparing for internal battles to select their flagbearers.
APC leadership, however, insists the massive turnout and voting strength at the primaries is a “dress rehearsal” for victory in 2027, signalling confidence within the ruling party.
As the political landscape continues to take shape, attention is now shifting from party primaries to the bigger showdown expected in the 2027 general elections.
