President Bola Tinubu has taken a swipe at the African Democratic Congress (ADC), describing the emerging opposition alliance as a “coalition of confusion.”
Tinubu made the remark during the 14th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC), where Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda was announced as the party’s new national chairman.
Speaking on the wave of defections and the growing alliance among opposition figures—including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Labour Party’s Peter Obi—Tinubu dismissed the coalition’s viability.
“It’s not a bad idea to abandon a sinking ship and be absent from a coalition of confusion,” the president said, to the applause of party members.
Tinubu also urged the NEC to postpone the APC congresses until December 2025, stating that the delay would create room for more defections from the opposition.
The ADC has recently gained momentum as discussions of a “mega opposition coalition” continue to surface, with political heavyweights expressing interest in uniting against the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections.
