EFCC Arrests Tambuwal Over Alleged N189bn Fraud

Former Sokoto State governor and current senator, Aminu Tambuwal, has landed in hot water with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) after being taken into custody in Abuja.

Inside sources say the ex-governor was grilled over alleged fraudulent cash withdrawals amounting to a jaw-dropping ₦189 billion. The figure alone has left many Nigerians shaking their heads, wondering how such an amount could even pass through one administration’s books.

The arrest didn’t come without controversy. The African Democratic Congress (ADC) is crying foul, accusing the EFCC of playing politics instead of fighting corruption. According to the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the agency seems to be targeting opposition politicians while turning a blind eye to others.

The ADC further claimed that some of these “fresh” investigations aren’t so fresh after all, alleging that EFCC is simply reopening old case files — dusting off past allegations and using them now for political advantage. The party insists this is less about justice and more about silencing voices that don’t align with the current power structure.
