An unidentified commercial motorcycle (Okada) rider sustained leg injuries when a truck carrying cement bags collided with an illegal Okada garage on the median of the Ilo-Awela Road, Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway.
The accident occurred around 2:20 pm on Thursday at the Shoprite-Dalemo axis. Eyewitnesses said the truck, descending the slope, lost control and ran over the Okada rider, who was unable to escape like his colleagues. A photograph from the scene showed the victim’s motorcycle trapped beneath the truck.
The injured rider was rushed to the General Hospital in Ota for immediate medical attention.
TRACE Ota Divisional Commander, Salau Hammed, urged drivers to exercise caution, particularly on slick roads near tollgates. He emphasized that many preventable collisions occur due to drivers’ failure to inspect and ensure their vehicles are roadworthy before driving.
