A Journalist, Comrade Erasmus Ikhide, narrowly escaped death in a devastating road traffic accident involving a Dangote cement truck on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, along the Benin-Sapele Expressway in Benin City.
The truck, reportedly traveling at high speed, careened out of control and collided with Ikhide’s Toyota Salon car, causing it to somersault three times. Fortunately, Ikhide escaped unhurt, but the incident has sparked renewed concerns about road safety and the regulation of heavy-duty trucks plying the Benin City metropolis.

OPINION: Federal Republic Of Alhaji Aliko Dangote (VI)
More worrisome is the fact that the Dangote truck that collided with the Journalist vehicle around the Ekai Market axis of Sapele Road sped of in the presence of eye witnesses.
As we enter the “ember months”, in a couple of days, the Edo State Ministry of Transport, Federal Road Safety Commision and Nigerian Police Edo State Comand should be more alive to their responsibilities.
Offending truck drivers should be apprehended and sanctioned to stem the tide of this menace on the roads of Benin City and other Metropolis within Edo State and the country.
