A Nigerian Army officer, Lieutenant Samson Haruna, has died after suffering severe burns when his wife allegedly set him ablaze during a domestic dispute at Wellington Bassey Barracks, Ibagwa, Abak Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.
The tragic incident occurred on September 22, 2025, following a heated argument between the officer and his wife, identified as Mrs. Samson Haruna. According to sources, the dispute escalated when the woman allegedly poured petrol on her husband and set him on fire.
Lt. Haruna, who also served as a medical doctor attached to the 6 Battalion as the Regimental Medical Officer (RMO), was initially stabilised at the Military Reference Section (MRS) within the barracks before being transferred to the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital for advanced treatment. Despite doctors’ efforts, he eventually succumbed to his injuries.
Security sources confirmed that Mrs. Haruna has been arrested and is currently in custody as investigations into the shocking incident continue.
