Outrage as Widow Trapped in Husband’s Ambulance and Forced to Drink Bath Water in Imo State

A heartbreaking incident in Awo-Omamma, Imo State, has stirred nationwide outrage after a widow was allegedly trapped inside her late husband’s ambulance and forced to drink the water used to bathe his corpse.

According to reports, the shocking act was carried out by the husband’s family, who accused the woman of being responsible for his death. The disturbing ritual was reportedly performed as a so-called “test of innocence” before the man’s burial could proceed.

In a viral video shared on X (formerly Twitter) by @ChuckErice, the widow was seen crying for mercy after being locked inside the vehicle for over two hours while villagers looked on. Witnesses said she was forced to endure humiliation in full view of the community.

Social media has since erupted in anger, with Nigerians condemning the act as barbaric, inhumane, and unacceptable. One user wrote, “This is pure evil. Nobody deserves this kind of humiliation.” Another commented, “Tradition should never be an excuse for wickedness. Justice must be served.”

The incident has also reignited discussions about harmful traditional practices still existing in some rural communities and the urgent need to protect widows from dehumanizing cultural rituals.

Many are now calling on authorities and human rights organizations to investigate and ensure justice for the victim while advocating for stronger laws to safeguard vulnerable women across Nigeria.
