15 Rescued as Two-Storey Building Collapses in Oyingbo, Lagos

LAGOS — Tragedy struck in the early hours of Monday as a two-storey building collapsed at No. 54 Cole Street, Cemetery Bus Stop, Oyingbo, leaving several residents trapped beneath the rubble.

Emergency responders, including officials from the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, rushed to the scene for a search and rescue operation that has so far saved 15 people—including seven men, four women, and four children—who sustained varying degrees of injuries.

Reports indicate that the building had been previously marked as distressed, and occupants were warned to evacuate before it finally gave way around 12:20 a.m. on October 27, 2025.

Confirming the incident, the Controller General of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, said the rescue was still ongoing.

“It is an ongoing rescue involving an existing two-storey building which had reportedly been marked as distressed before collapsing on the occupants. So far, 15 people have been rescued with varying degrees of injuries,” she said.

The injured victims have been taken to the Federal Medical Centre, Ebute Meta, and the General Hospital, Odan, Lagos Island, for treatment.

As of 6:00 a.m., no fatalities had been confirmed, while frantic efforts continued to locate those still trapped beneath the debris.

The collapse caused panic across the Oyingbo area, with residents and sympathisers joining emergency personnel in desperate rescue efforts through the night.
