Fresh Tragedy in Kwara as Gunmen Kill Two Farmers, Abduct Four in Edu LGA

Barely 24 hours after the attack on a church in Eruku, Ekiti Local Government Area, another wave of violence has struck Kwara State—this time in Bokungi Village, Edu Local Government Area—where armed men ambushed rice farmers on Wednesday evening, killing two and abducting four others.

The incident occurred during peak harvest hours as farmers worked in their fields. Community sources said the victims were surrounded while gathering their produce, leaving them little chance to escape. The attackers were said to have operated for several minutes before fleeing with the abducted farmers.

According to a community leader in Bokungi, the farmers had just completed their day’s work around 6 p.m. when the gunmen advanced. In the chaos that followed, four farmers were seized, while three attempted to run. Two of the fleeing farmers were fatally shot, and one escaped with injuries. The deceased victims have since been buried.

Residents say the growing insecurity across Edu Local Government Area has created deep fear among farming communities. Many have already abandoned their settlements, especially during the harvest season when they are most vulnerable to attacks.

Efforts to reach the Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ojo Adekimi, were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.
