Zulum Declares Statewide Fasting and Prayer as Boko Haram Attacks Intensify

Following renewed attacks and killings by Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists, Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum has called on all residents—regardless of religious affiliation—to observe a statewide day of fasting and prayer on Monday, 24 November 2025.

In a statewide broadcast, the governor reflected on the 15-year insurgency that has placed Borno in global focus, noting that the conflict has impacted every part of society, displaced millions across all 27 local government areas, and disrupted socio-economic life and livelihoods. Although the state experienced relative peace in the last two years, he warned that the recent resurgence of deadly attacks is deeply troubling.

Governor Zulum urged residents to use the designated day to pray for divine protection against attackers, saboteurs, and all enemies of peace. He said unity and collective resilience remain the state’s strongest defence, reminding citizens of how communal solidarity once helped defeat the darkest days of insurgency.

He expressed appreciation for the continued prayers and support offered to security forces, including troops, the Civilian JTF, hunters, and vigilantes. According to him, their sacrifices—combined with the resilience of the people—have enabled farmers to return to their fields this year, contributing to a promising harvest and improved food security prospects.

Zulum reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to sustaining support for farmers through inputs, agro-chemicals, and long-term agricultural development aimed at achieving food sufficiency statewide.

While acknowledging the recent security setbacks, the governor stressed that Borno has witnessed significant stability compared to previous years. He emphasised the need for intensified vigilance and constant prayer, noting that spiritual and strategic efforts must work hand-in-hand.

He assured residents that the government will continue investing in the welfare of security forces, strengthening community-based vigilance, and pursuing dialogue where appropriate—without compromising public safety or the integrity of the state.
