Troops of the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Wukari, under the 6 Brigade of the Nigerian Army and Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), have arrested a notorious bandit leader responsible for multiple kidnappings and armed robberies along the Benue–Taraba corridor. The suspect, Fidelis Gayama, was apprehended on December 21, 2025, during a precision, intelligence-driven operation in Vaase Community, Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State.
Gayama, described as a high-value target, had been on security watchlists for some time. Preliminary investigations indicate he is closely linked to Aka Dogo, a wanted armed group leader, and is believed to be the ringleader of a criminal network terrorizing travelers and communities along the Kente–Wukari Road and surrounding border areas between Benue and Taraba states.
Verification by the Nigeria Police Force at the Vaase Outpost confirmed that Gayama is among individuals declared wanted by the Beji Police Division in Ukum LGA. He is currently in military custody and will be handed over to the appropriate authorities for thorough investigation and prosecution in line with Nigerian law.
Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, Commander of 6 Brigade Nigerian Army / Sector 3 OPWS, praised the troops for their professionalism and precision, describing the arrest as a major blow to criminal networks operating in the area. He reaffirmed the Brigade’s commitment to sustained operations to protect lives and property, while urging the public to continue providing timely and credible intelligence to support security efforts across the region.
The operation marks a significant step in curbing criminal activities along the Benue–Taraba corridor and restoring safety for residents and travelers alike.
