Abductions in Kogi: Residents Urged to Exercise Caution Amid Rising Attacks

Residents of Yagba West Local Government Area in Kogi State are on high alert following reports of several abductions along Omi-Odo Ara Road on Tuesday, December 30, 2025. The exact number and identities of the victims remain unconfirmed, but local sources confirmed that security agencies have been alerted. Residents have been urged to limit unnecessary movement and report any suspicious activity to authorities.

This latest incident comes after a coordinated Sunday night attack in Odo-Ere community, which saw at least four residents abducted. Those kidnapped were identified as Engr. Shina Ajere, Mr. Kehinde Afolabi, Damilola Ogun, and a woman known locally as Iya Lara. Reports indicate that heavily armed assailants moved from house to house, firing sporadically and causing widespread panic.

During the attack, another apartment sustained visible gunshot damage, though the assailants failed to gain entry. Community members described the events as chaotic and terrifying, calling on the Kogi State Government and security agencies to increase patrols and expedite efforts to secure the release of those abducted.

Yagba West and surrounding rural communities have witnessed repeated attacks by armed groups, heightening fears over the deteriorating security situation in Kogi State. In a related incident, a pastor of the Living Faith Church Worldwide (Winners’ Chapel) was abducted while heading to his farm in Okoro Gbedde, Ijumu Local Government Area but was later released unharmed. Reports indicate no ransom was paid for his release, highlighting the unpredictable nature of these attacks.
