The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, has called on Nigerians to embrace unity and renewed national consciousness as the country steps into the year 2026.
In a New Year message issued on Friday in Ile-Ife, Osun State, and signed by the Director of Media and Public Affairs at the Ooni’s Palace, Mr. Moses Olafare, the monarch described 2026 as a season of national awakening for Nigeria.
Oba Ogunwusi urged citizens to strengthen the bonds that unite them, stressing the need to choose dialogue, compassion, and brotherhood over division, hostility, and conflict. He reminded Nigerians that despite current challenges, the country remains one people under God and is destined for greatness.
The Ooni also appealed to Nigerians in the diaspora to reconnect with their homeland by bringing back their knowledge, creativity, investments, and skills to support national growth. According to him, collective contributions from citizens at home and abroad are essential to building an inclusive economy that benefits all.
Expressing optimism about the nation’s future, the traditional ruler said Nigeria would overcome its challenges, noting that unity remains the bedrock of sustainable development and opportunities for future generations.
He concluded by praying for peace, divine health, and abundant prosperity for every Nigerian household in the new year.
