Police Warn Female Officers Against Dangling Earrings, Threaten Sanctions

The Nigeria Police Force has issued a fresh directive cautioning female officers against wearing unapproved accessories, particularly dangling earrings, while in uniform.

In an internal wireless message dated April 28, 2026, the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Gender Affairs expressed concern over what was described as a growing disregard for established dress regulations among female personnel.

The directive, circulated to police formations nationwide, reiterated that only small earring studs are permitted as part of the official uniform for female officers, in line with an earlier approval granted by the Inspector-General of Police in September 2021.

Despite this guideline, authorities noted that some officers have continued to wear dangling earrings and other accessories not recognised under the Force’s dress code.

The police warned that any officer found violating the directive would face disciplinary action.

The signal further instructed commanders to treat the matter with urgency and ensure that the regulation is emphasised during lectures and briefings across units, underscoring the Force’s renewed focus on discipline and uniform compliance.
