Taraba State Suspends Operations at Specialist Hospital Over Renovation Hazards

The Taraba State Government has temporarily suspended operations at the Taraba State Specialist Hospital due to safety and environmental risks linked to ongoing construction and renovation works.

The directive, issued by the Taraba State Ministry of Health in a letter dated January 8, 2026, and addressed to the hospital’s Chief Medical Director, cited hazards associated with the renovation as the reason for the temporary shutdown of all medical services.

The decision was approved by Governor Dr. Agbu Kefas, who instructed that all hospital activities be halted to allow contractors to carry out the renovation work without obstruction and at an accelerated pace. The Ministry of Health emphasized full compliance with the order to ensure safety and the effective execution of the project.

In the letter, Commissioner for Health Dr. Bordiya Buma highlighted the importance of suspending hospital activities to prevent accidents and facilitate the smooth progress of the construction. No specific date has been provided for the reopening of the facility, but the government assured that services would resume once renovation works are completed.

The Taraba State Specialist Hospital is the state’s primary referral health facility, offering specialised medical care to residents of Taraba State and neighbouring regions.
