Fresh controversy has reportedly emerged within the Nigeria Police Force following allegations of a discreet promotion exercise said to have bypassed standard procedures. At the center of the issue is the promotion of the Force Public Relations Officer, Ben Hundeyin, from Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) to Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), a move that some internal sources claim placed him ahead of more senior officers.
The police announced on Tuesday that the promotion was approved on the recommendation of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun. Hundeyin was appointed Force Public Relations Officer in 2025 as a CSP, succeeding Olumuyiwa Adejobi.
Additional claims have also surfaced regarding the promotion of Gloria Obiageli Obakpolor from Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) to Superintendent of Police (SP). Sources allege that this advancement has triggered internal tensions and renewed accusations of favoritism within the force.
These developments are said to have intensified existing concerns among some officers, who are calling for greater transparency in promotion processes. As of press time, Police Headquarters has not issued an official statement addressing the allegations.
