Will 2026 be the year of recovery? New figures show: Things are making progress – and one economic sector in particular is booming.
From an economic point of view, Germany has not had a good time. In the last five years, the gross domestic product (GDP) has practically not grown, something that has never happened since reunification. Now growth is returning. In the fourth quarter of last year, GDP increased by 0.3 percent, according to data published today by the Federal Statistical Office Destatis.
Also interesting: the government measures to modernize the infrastructure and the Bundeswehr seem to be taking effect. A real boom can be observed in public investments. They rose by ten percent in the fourth quarter, amounting to 3.5 percent of economic output. This is – apart from the Corona years – the highest level since reunification.
