Court Grants Bail to Nasir El-Rufai Amid ICPC Trial

Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has been granted bail by the Federal High Court sitting in Kaduna, even as a separate bail application before the Kaduna State High Court has been adjourned to April 21, 2026.

The proceedings took place across two courts on Tuesday, reflecting the complexity of the legal actions involving the former governor. At the Federal High Court, the presiding judge, Justice Rilwan Aikawa, approved El-Rufai’s bail under strict conditions, while the State High Court deferred its ruling to a later date.

Under the bail terms, El-Rufai is required to provide a bond of ₦200 million alongside two sureties. One of the sureties must present a valid Certificate of Occupancy for landed property, while the other must be a recognised elder in Kaduna State, subject to verification by the Kaduna State Council of Elders. The court also directed that he must not grant media interviews throughout the duration of the trial.

In addition, the former governor has been ordered to report monthly to the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) and deposit his international passport with the court.

Meanwhile, the Kaduna State High Court, presided over by Justice Darius Khobo, adjourned hearing on the bail application after earlier proceedings in the day did not reach a conclusion.

El-Rufai is currently facing a nine-count charge filed by the ICPC, bordering on alleged advance fee fraud, money laundering, and violations of procurement laws. He has pleaded not guilty to all charges.
