The
Spousal splitting is considered by many to be terribly unfair. But that is not the main reason why many SPD politicians now want to abolish it. They also want more women to work so that the economy is strengthened and tax revenues increase.
Actually, that sounds like a pretty good idea: I’m eliminating a major injustice and at the same time ensuring more economic growth. But there are good reasons to see things completely differently, and they are given far too little attention in the debate. Spousal splitting also creates justice. And there is more to be said for keeping it than eliminating it.
