In his heartfelt address, Gumel expressed profound gratitude to Allah, the Nigeria Police Force, and the countless individuals who have supported his journey since his enlistment thirty years ago. “I could not foresee the future when I joined the force,” he recalled, “but I was guided by an unshakeable conviction to serve with honor and unwavering dedication.”
Gumel credited his academic pursuits, including his time at Ahmadu Bello University and Federal University of Technology Minna, as pivotal in shaping his leadership philosophy. His professional ascent, from cadet training at the Nigeria Police Academy to strategic roles across various states, including the Federal Capital Territory, Niger, Kwara, Sokoto, and Kano, has been marked by a steadfast commitment to intelligence-led and community-oriented policing.
As Commissioner of Police in Sokoto State, Gumel dismantled armed robbery networks and fostered public trust through partnerships with traditional leaders. In Kano, he spearheaded the rehabilitation of over 700 youths, transforming them into productive citizens. “Saving a life is greater than arresting one,” he emphasized, underscoring his belief in the power of redemption.
Gumel’s tenure as Commissioner of Police in Kano was also marked by his role in ensuring peaceful elections in 2023, where proactive planning and stakeholder engagement were key to managing tensions.
