The attack happened on Sunday evening, throwing the area into panic as residents scrambled for safety in what witnesses described as a sudden and terrifying assault.

A resident, Nyam Isaac, said the gunmen arrived at about 8pm and began shooting indiscriminately in a crowded market area.

“This is my area. Gunmen came around 8pm to a place called Angwa Rukuba and shot randomly at people, it’s a market setting. People who saw them said they came in soldier khaki. They left many injured,” he said.

Another eyewitness account shared online also painted a grim picture of the attack, saying fear spread quickly as the gunmen targeted unsuspecting residents.

The incident has since sparked outrage on social media, with many Nigerians questioning why deadly attacks continue to happen with such frequency in Plateau State.

One user, reacting emotionally, wrote that Nigeria appears to have become numb to repeated killings, especially in troubled communities.

Another, Oyindamola, questioned the role of government in protecting lives.

“What happened in Jos yesterday is really sad… Why is the government allowing this to happen to its citizens? What kind of government is this?” she asked.

In response, the Plateau State Government confirmed the attack and announced a 48-hour curfew across Jos North Local Government Area.

In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Communication, Rt. Hon. Joyce Lohya Ramnap, the government condemned the killings and said security agencies had been mobilised to hunt down those responsible.

Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang also condemned the violence, describing it as a barbaric and unprovoked attack on innocent citizens.

Residents have now been urged to remain indoors, stay alert and cooperate with security agencies as investigations continue.

The latest attack adds to growing fears over worsening insecurity in Plateau, where repeated killings have left many communities living in fear.
