Abba Yusuf Moves to Tackle Kano Water Crisis

Governor Abba Yusuf has pledged to confront the persistent water scarcity affecting many parts of Kano State, as he began an inspection tour of major water treatment plants across the state.

The visit, according to the state government, was aimed at assessing the current condition of the facilities and identifying practical solutions to the ongoing shortage of clean and reliable water supply faced by residents.

Accompanied by commissioners and representatives of CGC, the governor started the inspection at the Tamburawa water treatment plant, where he examined key parts of the facility including treatment machines, distribution pipelines, and other operational infrastructure.

During the inspection, several major problems were reportedly identified. These included leaking pipelines, malfunctioning equipment, and outdated machines that are no longer functioning efficiently. The findings reinforced concerns that years of neglect and poor maintenance may have significantly weakened the state’s water delivery system.

Speaking after the visit, Governor Yusuf assured residents that his administration is committed to rehabilitating all faulty sections of the treatment plants and restoring the system to full working condition. He said the government would not treat the issue as a temporary inconvenience but as a critical public need that deserves urgent and lasting attention.

A key part of the administration’s strategy, according to the governor, will be collaboration with CGC to carry out feasibility studies and support efforts to modernise Kano’s water infrastructure. The goal, he said, is to provide residents with clean, safe, and adequate potable water across the state.

The move is likely to be welcomed by many residents who have long struggled with irregular supply and dependence on alternative water sources.

If followed through properly, the intervention could go beyond fixing pipes and machines. It could also improve public health, reduce the burden on households, and restore confidence in one of the most basic services any government is expected to provide.
