Druzhba pipeline: Russia wants to stop oil transit to Schwedt

Russia According to the federal government, it will no longer deliver oil to Germany via the Druzhba pipeline from May. As a spokeswoman for the Federal Ministry of Economics announced, the Russian oil company Rosneft has informed the Federal Network Agency of the step not to forward any Kazakh crude oil to the PCK refinery. However, security of supply in Germany is not threatened by this. There is no official confirmation from the Russian government yet; Government spokesman Dmitri Peskov referred inquiries to the companies concerned.

Kazakh Energy Minister Yerlan Akkenzhenov said on the sidelines of an environmental forum in the capital Astana that Russia had planned zero crude oil transit from May. The reason is a lack of “technical possibilities”. Akkenschenov suspected that this was related to recent attacks on Russian infrastructure. Kazakhstan Meanwhile, there are no plans to reduce oil production.

“We are in the process of examining the effects carefully,” said the spokesman Rosneft GermanyBurkhard Woelki. We will adapt to any new situation and, for example, ensure replacement deliveries if necessary so that PCK can continue to produce to its full extent. According to the Kazakh Energy Minister, Russia said it would resume transit as soon as the question of technical feasibility was resolved.

Since Germany because of that Ukrainian war no longer receives energy supplies from Russia, Kazakhstan’s importance for supply has increased. In 2025, the country exported 2,146 tons of oil to Germany via the Russian Druzhba pipeline, an increase of 44 percent over the previous year. A large part of it ends up at PCK in Schwedt, which is particularly important for supplying Berlin and northeast Germany with diesel, gasoline, kerosene and heating oil.
