Consequences of the Iran War: US gasoline prices reach their highest level since the start of the Iran War

The Gasoline price has risen to its highest level in the USA since the beginning of the war. Americans had to pay an average of 4.18 US dollars (3.57 euros) for a gallon (3.785 liters) of gasoline, according to the AAA automobile association. At the start of the Iran War at the end of February, the average value was 2.98 US dollars – since then the price has risen by around 40 percent.

The reason for the increase is, among other things, the blockade of global oil trade important Strait of Hormuz. Since fighting began in February, shipping traffic in the strait has come to a virtual standstill. Energy authorities expect the increase to continue for a long time

The increase is a sensitive issue for the US government. During his election campaign, President Donald Trump promised to halve energy prices in the country. However, around six months before the important midterm elections for Congress, he is far from that. The last time the US gasoline price was at a similarly high level was around four years ago, after the start of the Russian war of aggression against the US Ukraine located.

According to the government, this is just… a temporary increase. As the US Energy Agency (EIA) announced, even after the Strait of Hormuz opens, it could take months for shipping traffic to return to normal levels.

In comparison to Germany However, Americans still give little at the gas station out of. Converted to liters and euros, the current US gasoline price is around 94 cents – compared to over two euros at German gas stations. The USA charge fewer taxes and duties per liter of fuel, and the country itself has large oil reserves.
