Gasoline price: Schnieder still believes that fuel discounts are a sensible measure

Federal Minister of Transport Patrick Schnieder (CDU) defended the fuel discount. “The fuel discount is the right decision,” he told him Editorial Network Germany. Individual sectors and road users are on the car or the truck and need support. When asked about a possible extension of the measure, Schnieder replied: “We are keeping an eye on the situation and seeing what is necessary to ensure that refueling remains affordable for everyone.”

Since May 1st, one has been in effect for two months Tax cut for petrol and diesel of just under 17 cents per liter. As a result, the state is losing billions in revenue, and the federal government and the cartel office are demanding that the oil industry reduce it completely to the drivers to pass on. The ADAC criticized the fact that the oil companies did not pass this on in full to customers.

Schnieder against general speed limits

There was criticism from the opposition on the measure, among other things, because oil companies can take advantage of the tax relief and the demand for fuel further heated becomes. Economists suggested the introduction as a complementary measure a general speed limit on highways.

However, Schnieder rejected this again. “The state doesn’t have to be the nanny everywhere and explain to everyone what is good and right,” he said. Anyone who doesn’t understand that the tank empties more quickly at high speeds “can’t be helped anymore,” said Schnieder.

Schnieder also dismissed concerns about a possible kerosene shortage. “We have a price problem, but not a supply problem,” he said. There are enough refineries that can produce kerosene. However, in parts of Asia this is different and this could affect the availability of flights and their prices.
