Driver Escapes Suspected Kidnap Attack on Abuja Road as Gunmen Abduct Passengers in Kogi

A driver working for prominent car dealer Ominyimotors has recounted his narrow escape from suspected kidnappers after armed men reportedly attacked travellers along a lonely highway in Kogi State and abducted several passengers heading toward Abuja.

The incident was revealed in a viral video shared online by an Instagram user identified as Ominyimotors, who stated that the driver survived the attack while transporting a vehicle to Abuja for delivery to a customer.

According to the post, the driver eventually arrived safely in Abuja around midnight and successfully handed over the vehicle despite the frightening experience.

In the emotional video, the visibly shaken driver explained that heavily armed men blocked the road, opened fire, and forced passengers out of a commercial bus before marching them into the bush.

The driver, speaking in Pidgin English, said he abandoned his vehicle immediately after the attackers pointed guns at him.

He explained that the attack occurred along the Kabba road axis in Kogi State, an area that has repeatedly witnessed reports of kidnappings and violent attacks targeting motorists and commuters.

According to him, the gunmen abducted about seven passengers during the operation while continuing to move victims deeper into the forest.

The driver said he managed to escape by running away from the scene despite hearing gunshots behind him.

He added that one of the passengers travelling with him could not escape because he was unable to run fast enough and was eventually taken away by the attackers alongside other victims.

The latest incident has again intensified concerns over worsening insecurity along highways connecting Abuja and several parts of North Central Nigeria, where armed criminal groups frequently ambush travellers for kidnapping and ransom operations.

Residents and commuters have repeatedly called on security agencies to increase patrols and surveillance along vulnerable road corridors, especially isolated stretches frequently targeted by armed groups
