“Schools Under Siege” — CAIDOV Demands Urgent Action After Oyo Abduction and Teacher’s Killing

The Centre Against Injustice and Domestic Violence (CAIDOV) has strongly condemned the recent abduction of students and teachers in Oyo State, alongside the killing of a teacher during the attack, describing the incident as a disturbing escalation in insecurity targeting schools.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the organisation said the attack represents not only a humanitarian tragedy but also a direct threat to the right to education and the safety of learning environments across the country.

CAIDOV called on security agencies, the Oyo State Government, the Federal Ministry of Education, and the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, to treat the situation as a national emergency and act swiftly to secure the release of all abducted victims.

The group described the killing of the teacher as “a crime against humanity,” expressing condolences to the family, colleagues, and students affected. It warned that repeated attacks on schools reflect deep gaps in intelligence gathering, emergency response, and preventive security measures.

It further stressed that education must never be reduced to a bargaining tool, urging authorities to ensure immediate and safe rescue operations while rejecting any form of ransom negotiation that could embolden criminal groups.

CAIDOV also called for a transparent investigation into the incident, prosecution of those responsible, full implementation of the Safe Schools Initiative, and better protection mechanisms for vulnerable school communities. The organisation added that victims and families deserve compensation and psychological support.

As insecurity around schools continues to raise concern, the group reaffirmed its commitment to monitoring developments and holding authorities accountable until concrete action is taken.
