Blood in the Market: Bandits Kill Traders in Katsina Village Attack

At least 10 people, including a pregnant woman, are feared dead after armed bandits launched a deadly attack on a grain market in Guga village, Bakori Local Government Area of Katsina State.

Eyewitnesses said the attackers stormed the market in broad daylight, opening fire on traders and residents without warning, causing panic as people tried to flee for safety.

The assailants reportedly operated for several hours, during which they also set houses ablaze and rustled livestock, including cattle, goats, and sheep.

Victims of the attack were later buried on Monday morning in a mass funeral held across nearby communities, including Gidan Sarkin Noma and Gidan Wawo in Bakori LGA.

Many of those killed were farmers from surrounding villages who had come to the market to sell their produce before the attack disrupted the trading activities.

Residents say Guga village has suffered repeated bandit attacks and kidnappings over the years, forcing several families to abandon their homes and farms.

As of the time of reporting, neither the Nigeria Police Force nor state authorities had issued an official statement on the incident.
