APC Women Protest Alleged ₦1,000 Payment, Say Party Is Ignoring Economic Hardship

Some women supporters of Nigeria’s ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) have expressed anger and disappointment over what they described as poor treatment during a party primary exercise, alleging they were paid only ₦1,000 for their participation.

In a viral video seen by SaharaReporters, the women, speaking in Hausa, complained about worsening economic hardship and said the gesture from party organizers was disrespectful and insufficient.

One of the women was heard repeatedly saying, “We will not accept ₦1,000 election,” stressing that the amount could not even cover transportation costs incurred while attending the event.

“Honestly, truth be told, even if they call us right now to come out from our houses and give us ₦1,000, it is not an election,” she said.

She further lamented the cost of transportation and daily survival challenges, noting that many participants spent nearly the same amount just to get to the venue.

“Some of them even came here on motorcycles. The transport fare alone is close to ₦1,000, so ₦1,000 election cannot work,” she added.

The woman also alleged that some participants were later given even less.

“Surprisingly, they have now returned to giving only ₦600 each,” she said.

The women urged APC leaders to reconsider how grassroots supporters are treated, warning that neglect and poor handling of party loyalists could affect the party’s performance in future elections.

The protest comes amid growing frustration across the country over rising living costs, inflation, and economic hardship, which many citizens say are making daily survival increasingly difficult.
