Police Recover 119 Rounds of AK-47 Ammunition Hidden Near Graveyard in Gombe

The Gombe State Police Command has recovered 119 rounds of 7.62mm AK-47 ammunition concealed inside a bag along Kalshingi Road in Kwadon, Yamaltu/Deba Local Government Area of the state.

According to the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, the discovery followed a tip-off received by the Divisional Police Officer of Kwadon Division around 10:30am on May 19, 2026.

The intelligence reportedly indicated that a suspicious white sack had been hidden beneath a tree opposite a graveyard along the road.

Acting on the information, the Divisional Police Officer led a team of detectives to the scene, where the sack was located and searched.

Police said the operation led to the recovery of the live ammunition, alongside two empty ammunition packets, two bottles containing moringa seeds, and a green bag.

Security operatives immediately carried out a search of nearby bushes and surrounding areas after the discovery, but no suspects were arrested at the scene.

The Command said surveillance and monitoring have since been intensified across the area as investigations continue to uncover those responsible for concealing the ammunition.

Gombe State Commissioner of Police, Bello Yahaya, praised residents for providing timely information that led to the recovery, stressing the importance of community cooperation in tackling insecurity.

He also encouraged members of the public to remain vigilant and continue sharing credible intelligence with security agencies to help protect lives and maintain public safety across the state.
