FG Declares Two-Day Public Holiday For Eid ul Adha Celebration

The Federal Government has officially declared Wednesday, May 27, and Thursday, May 28, 2026, as public holidays to celebrate the Muslim festival of Eid ul Adha.

The announcement was made by Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo through a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Dr Magdalene Ajani, in Abuja on Monday.

According to the statement, the declaration reflects the government’s recognition of the spiritual importance of Eid ul Adha to millions of Muslims in Nigeria and across the world.

Tunji-Ojo congratulated Muslim faithful both within Nigeria and in the diaspora, describing the festival as a period that symbolises sacrifice, obedience to God, love, compassion, and unity among people.

The Federal Government also called on Nigerians to use the festive period to pray for peace, security, unity, and continued progress in the country.

“It is in the spirit of brotherhood, shared humanity, and national unity that the Federal Government wishes all Muslims a peaceful, blessed, and joyous celebration,” the statement added.
