Accord Party Condemns Killing of Osun Youth, Calls for Swift Justice Amid Rising Political Tensions

The Accord Party has condemned the killing of Kolade Eluyera, son of its Woman Leader in Irewole Local Government Area of Osun State, describing the incident as a disturbing act of violence that must not go unanswered.

In a statement issued in Abuja on Monday, the party’s National Chairman, Maxwell Mgbuden, said the young man was killed on Friday near Onireke Mosque in Ikire in what he described as a “gruesome and barbaric” attack.

He alleged that the killing may have been politically motivated, claiming the victim was targeted to intimidate his mother over her involvement in party activities. According to him, the deceased had done nothing wrong except exercise his constitutional right to association.

Mgbuden expressed condolences to the bereaved family, describing the incident as painful and unacceptable, and urged security agencies to act swiftly by identifying, arresting, and prosecuting those responsible. He also called for investigations into possible sponsors behind the attack.

He warned that rising political tensions in Osun State should not be allowed to degenerate into further violence, especially as elections approach, adding that security agencies must strengthen their presence and response capacity to prevent reprisals or escalation.

The party also raised concerns about alleged destruction of campaign materials and billboards, accusing political rivals of engaging in acts capable of destabilising the state. It urged security operatives to remain neutral and proactive in maintaining order.

Despite the concerns, the party reaffirmed its support for Governor Ademola Adeleke, commending what it described as efforts to deliver democratic dividends, while also calling for peaceful and issue-based political engagement across the state.

For now, the police have not issued an official detailed report on the circumstances surrounding the killing, and investigations are expected to continue.
