Actor-turned-politician Desmond Elliott has alleged that some of his supporters were intimidated and denied access during the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election process.
Desmond made the allegation after arriving at the Paddington Mini Stadium alongside his supporters and political associates for the exercise.
According to him, several of his supporters were prevented from entering the polling venue despite repeated appeals to electoral officials overseeing the process.
He said he made multiple attempts to persuade officials to allow his supporters into the area but claimed his requests were ignored.
The situation later triggered a peaceful protest by some of his supporters, who expressed frustration over the alleged exclusion from the exercise.
As tensions gradually increased at the venue, Desmond and many of his supporters eventually left the stadium.
Explaining his decision, the lawmaker said he chose to withdraw in order to prevent any breakdown of law and order, stressing that no election was worth the loss of human life.
“I will not allow any life to be lost because of this election,” he reportedly stated.
The primary election was eventually stalled as tension continued to rise over complaints of alleged exclusion and irregularities involving party members at the venue.
The development adds to the growing list of disputes, protests and accusations surrounding ongoing APC primary elections across different parts of the country ahead of the 2027 general elections.
