Police Promote 17,951 Junior Officers Nationwide in Major Welfare Boost Exercise

The Nigeria Police Force has approved the promotion of 17,951 junior officers across various commands and formations nationwide in one of its largest recent personnel upgrades.

According to an internal wireless signal dated May 20, 2026, the exercise saw 164 Sergeants elevated to Inspectors, while 73 Corporals were promoted to Sergeants, marking a structured upward mobility across ranks.

The directive also confirmed that the majority of the beneficiaries were 17,714 Constables elevated to Corporals, with the promotions taking effect from May 13, 2026.

The document, issued through the office of the Commissioner of Police (Welfare), noted that the exercise covered personnel serving in strategic formations including the Force Headquarters, intelligence units, special task forces, and various zonal commands across the country.

Authorities emphasized that the promotion exercise was strictly based on seniority and merit, with eligibility tied to service dates to ensure fairness and compliance with internal regulations.

Command heads were also warned to ensure that only qualified officers benefit, with instructions to report any discrepancies discovered during implementation for immediate correction.

The police leadership described the exercise as part of ongoing efforts to boost morale and reward professionalism within the Force, while reaffirming its commitment to strengthening internal welfare systems for officers nationwide.
