At least 10 local vigilantes have reportedly lost their lives after armed men attacked Damri town in Bakura Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
The attack was disclosed on Wednesday by security analyst Bakatsine through a post shared online, where he explained that the gunmen invaded the community and clashed with members of the local vigilante group.
According to the report, the vigilantes attempted to defend residents when the attackers stormed the town, leading to a violent confrontation. During the exchange, at least 10 vigilante members were killed.
The incident adds to the growing wave of insecurity affecting several communities across Zamfara and other parts of northern Nigeria, where armed groups frequently target villages, travellers, and farmers. Rural communities have increasingly relied on vigilante groups for protection due to repeated attacks and limited security presence in remote areas.
Bakatsine described the killings as another painful example of the worsening violence between armed groups and community defence forces in the region. He also questioned how long civilians can continue to survive under constant fear and insecurity without stronger protection from authorities.
Residents in many parts of Zamfara have continued to express concern over persistent attacks, kidnappings, and killings that have disrupted daily life and forced some communities to abandon their homes and farmlands.
