United States immigration authorities have arrested a 53-year-old Nigerian national, Olatunde Abiodun Olusanjo, in Los Angeles over prior convictions related to child molestation and other sexual offences.
The arrest was carried out by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement through its Enforcement and Removal Operations unit in Los Angeles, which confirmed the development in a statement shared on Friday.
According to the agency, Olusanjo was taken into custody on April 21 and is currently being held pending removal proceedings.
Officials disclosed that the suspect has a criminal record that includes offences such as child molestation, sexual battery, and solicitation of lewd conduct.
In a video released alongside the statement, the suspect was seen in handcuffs being escorted from an ICE vehicle into custody. The agency described him as a “criminal illegal alien and convicted sex offender,” noting that he is a Nigerian citizen.
ICE stated that Olusanjo will remain in custody while immigration authorities proceed with legal steps toward his deportation from the United States.
The case highlights ongoing enforcement actions by US immigration authorities targeting individuals with prior criminal convictions as part of broader public safety and immigration control measures.
