‘2027: ADC Chieftain Predicts APC Defeat, Demands INEC Chairman’s Exit’

A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress, Ladan Salihu, has predicted that the ruling All Progressives Congress will struggle to withstand public dissatisfaction ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking during an appearance on Sunday Politics on Channels Television, Salihu argued that the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu would fail what he described as the “integrity and credibility test” at the polls.

“When it comes to credible elections… this government will not measure up with the anger and frustrations of the Nigerian people,” he said.

Salihu also renewed calls for the removal or resignation of the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Joash Amupitan, accusing him of lacking neutrality and competence—claims the electoral body has denied.

“Amupitan should resign or be removed,” he said, alleging that the INEC boss had not demonstrated the level of impartiality required for such a critical office.

However, when asked whether the ADC would consider boycotting the 2027 elections if the INEC chairman remains in office, Salihu did not give a direct answer, stating that the party would decide at the appropriate time.

Despite the APC’s dominance—controlling a majority of states and the National Assembly—Salihu insisted that the ruling party lacks grassroots support.

“They have control of the Senate and the House, but they don’t have control of the people,” he said, expressing confidence that the opposition could capitalise on growing public discontent.

His remarks come amid increasing political activity and realignment among opposition parties as preparations for the 2027 elections gradually intensify.
