Adamu Garba, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has raised concerns over what he described as the growing influence of sycophants surrounding President Bola Tinubu, warning that they are giving the president a distorted view of the state of the nation and the ruling party.
Garba made this assertion during an interview on Channels Television on Tuesday, July 22.
“They [the ADC coalition] hope for our loss, and that is why we need to be serious,” Garba said.
“That is the more reason why we need to be very sincere with ourselves and make sure that the leadership of the party is somebody that is truthful and capable of listening to criticisms and accepting the facts—without any flattery, without any sycophancy. Because I believe there are a lot of sycophants around the president; people are telling him that things are okay—things are not okay.”
Garba’s comments come amid increased political maneuvering and coalition talks among opposition figures ahead of the 2027 general elections. His remarks underscore growing internal concerns within the APC regarding governance challenges, public perception, and the party’s preparedness to retain power.
The former presidential aspirant’s warning signals the need for introspection within the ruling party and more openness to constructive criticism as economic pressures and security concerns continue to affect public sentiment.
