Egor Local Government Suspends Planned Coronation Of Madam Iyabo, As Egor Markets’ President

EGOR local government Council has suspended planned coronation of Madam Iyabo as market president in the Egor local government area.

Madam Iyabo is reported to have paid ₦1.5M to Pst. Josephine “Otagbogbo” Ibhaguezejele, to emerge Egor market President—she was to oversee all the markets in Egor so as to quickly recoup her money.

A letter by the Ag Chairman, Egor LGA, Osaro Osa-Eribo, read, “this is to inform the general public, market leaders, and traders within Egor Local Government Area that the proposed inauguration of Iye-Eki in all the markets across the Local Government has been suspended indefinitely”.

The purported coronation was scheduled for 3rd October, 2025, 12.00 noon, at Uselu market, Benin City, the Edo State capital.

The anti-Benin move, now suspended, following Omo n’Oba’s rejection of the “Iyaloja” in Benin and the attendant public outcry, signposts a broader strategy to subject markets in Edo State, particularly Benin, under the so-called “Iyaloja”.

The exercise, now suspended and never to resurface, would have held across the 18 local government areas of Edo State on different days.

The Divisional Police Officers and all relevant security agencies have been duly notified and directed to arrest and prosecute any individual or group who violates the suspension directive.
